Planet Under Pressure

Planet Under PressureWhat forces are "putting the squeeze" on Planet Earth? Science centers worldwide will help their visitors grapple with this complex question during public events connected with the international Planet under Pressure conference, March 26-29.

Check out a world map of conference-related events created in coordination with the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC).

Events will give the public a snapshot of the state of the planet and scientific concern in advance of the UN Rio+20 Summit. Via live web streaming, email and twitter, participants will be able to follow the conference live from all over the world and interact with speakers in London in real time.

"The high public interest in the events at the science centers and museums worldwide encourages us as scientists in our daily work," says Dr. Mark Stafford-Smith, Co-Chair of the Planet under Pressure Conference. "It underlines that our research is relevant and that we have a lot to contribute to finding viable solutions."

Before, during and after the conference, learners of all ages can explore Earth's environmental and sustainability challenges with hundreds of Howtosmile.org activities about nature and the environment, including many drawn from science centers across the US and in other countries.
