Use the four operations with whole numbers to solve problems 1.i. Interpret a multiplication equation as a comparison, e.g., interpret 35 = 5 × 7 as a statement that 35 is 5 times as many as 7 and 7 times as many as 5. Represent verbal statements of multiplicative comparisons as multiplication equations. 2.i. Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison. ii. Distinguish multiplicative comparison from additive comparison. 3.i. Solve multistep word problems (with whole numbers only) involving the mixture of the four operations. iii. Represent problem situations using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. iv. Develop mental computation and estimation strategies (including rounding) and use them to assess reasonableness of answers. 4.NBT – Number and Operations in Base Ten Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers 5.i. Multiply a whole number of up to four-digit number by a one-digit whole number, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations.
