In this activity, learners construct an indoors obstacle course and discover how using an eye patch can help them complete the course in the dark. Wearing an eyepatch allows the covered eye to adjust to the dark ahead of time—improving the night vision of pirates. The activity includes a data sheet for learners to record their trial times, background information on vision and dark adaptation, and possible extensions.
