In this activity (on the left side of page 5, continued on the right side of page 4 of the PDF), learners make models of colorful butterflies. The butterflies are made from pipe cleaners and either colored tissue paper or marker-decorated coffee filters. Using their models, learners can simulate how butterflies flap their wing, and how they use their probosces to draw out sweet nectar from flowers. Flying their creations around allows learners to imagine butterflies burning off energy and then reviving themselves with flower nectar.
