Chemical Footprint—Family Activity

In this multi-part activity learners examine non-point water pollution. Learners discover ways they may be contributing to this type of pollution and brainstorm ways to change their behavior to be more environmentally responsible. Designed as a family exploration, the activity includes watching two short educational films about the Hudson River, discussing hypothetical pollution scenarios, auditing your own stock of pollutants under the bathroom sink, brainstorming alternative products, and sharing your results. The activity could easily be adapted to non-family educational groups and could be done in one chunk, or over the course of several sessions.
