Making Mosaics

In this archaeology meets art activity, learners make a mosaic and consider the ways in which art communicates. Educators can tie this activity to the study of the Petra site (an ancient city in the Middle East) or any ancient culture/site. Learners discuss the history and use of mosaics and then plan and construct their own mosaics out of cut paper. This can be a whole class activity as well, combining students' mosaics into a large display.
