In this activity, learners make homemade journals featuring seashell rubbings. First, learners transfer the texture of a seashell onto a piece of paper using a crayon. Next, learners construct the journal binding out of thin pieces of wood. Learners embellish the front and back covers with the seashell rubbing and other decorations, add blank sheets to the inside, and tie the journal together with ribbon. Use this activity to help learners explore seashells, adaptations, and exoskeletons through a hands-on, creative project. Note: a drill is required to construct the journal's front and back covers.
