In this neuroscience activity (5th activity on the page), learners explore their sense of touch without using their senses of vision and hearing. This resource includes instructions on how to construct Brain Boxes or Brain Bags that act as mystery containers for learners to use their sense of touch to identify the objects inside. This resource also includes suggestions for items to use as well as variations.

Quick Guide
Materials List (per group of students)
- Medium-sized cardboard box (bigger than a shoe box) or pillow case
- Scissors or utility knife
- Socks
- Tape (duct tape works well)
- Decorations for the box: drawings, pictures
- Elastic, thread, and needle (for bag version, optional)
- Objects to put in the box or bag (see list for suggestions)
- Gloves (for the GLOVE TREATMENT portion of the experiment)
